Genchuji Buddhist Temple

文禄2年（1593年）島津藩主 島津義弘公（ 松齢公 ）は、浄土宗 大本山 筑後 善導寺 第二十二世、鹿児島 不断光院 第三世 であった 運譽是頓上人に命じて、南浦（内之浦）の地に精舎を建立させた。（現内之浦小学校の場所に四門伽藍を有したとされる）。これが内之浦 玄忠寺の縁起である。

Genchuji Buddhist Temple is in Kagoshima.  This small Temple of the Pure Land School(Jodoshu) of Mahayana Buddhism was founded by the Venerable "Un-Yo-Shi-Don" shonin, the 22nd head priest of Major Head Temple Zendoji of Jodoshu in Kurume. He was ordered by the ruler of Satsuma, Osumi and Hyuga, the Yoshihiro of Shimazu cran, to build the temple in this town by the sea.
